NEW! 200,000 Children's Metal Jewelry Recalled Due to Lead Poisoning Hazard

 The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Spandrel Sales and Marketing Inc., announced a voluntary recall of 200,000 children's necklaces, bracelets, and rings. The recalled jewelry contains high levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested by young children.

There have been no reported injuries. The recalled jewelry includes pendants that hang from silver-colored bracelet and necklace chains and silver-colored rings with a charm on top. Charm shapes include silver crosses, suns, moons, stars, butterflies, cupids, angels, keys, elephants, hands, cell phones, fish, and shoes. The jewelry was sold at vending machines located in malls, discount, department, and grocery stores nationwide from February 2007 through March 2007 for 25 cents.

NEW! 228,000 Children's Capri Pants Recalled Due to Choking Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Azmat Group of Bangladesh, announced a voluntary recall of 228,000 Little Girls Capri Pants with Snap Roll Cuff. The buttons inside the waistband of the pants can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

There have been no reported injuries. The recalled pants are Ellemenno brand Capri pants sold in girls' sizes 4, 5, 6, 6X, 7, and 8. The pants were sold in a variety of colors including light grey, tan, coral, and light aqua blue. The pants are made of 100 percent cotton poplin and have a snap at the cuff, on the waistband, and on the pockets of the pants. Inside the waistband are two clear buttons and a strip of enclosed elastic for adjusting the fit of the pants. "VN 69047" is printed on the product care label located inside the waist of the pants. The pants were sold at Mervyns stores nationwide from December 2006 through April 2007 for about $20.

Evenflo Infant Car Seat/Carriers Recalled Due to Fall Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in cooperation with Evenflo Company Inc., announced a recall of about 450,000 Evenflo Embrace Infant Car Seat/Carriers due to a handle malfunction.

When used as an infant carrier, the handle can unexpectedly release, causing the seat to rotate forward. When this happens, an infant inside the carrier can fall to the ground and suffer serious injuries. Evenflo has received 679 reports of the handle on the car seat/carriers unexpectedly releasing, resulting in 160 injuries to children. These reports include a skull fracture, two concussions, cuts, scrapes, and bruises.

The recall involves Evenflo Embrace Infant Car Seat/Carriers made before April 8, 2006. They have model numbers beginning with 317, 320, 397, 398, 540, 548, 549, 550, 556, 597, 598 or 599. The model number and production date information can be found on a white label on the bottom of the carrier and on the top of the convenience base. Models beginning with "5" are units sold with the travel system (compatible stroller). Embrace infant car seat/carriers made on or after April 8, 2006, are not included in this recall.

Department and juvenile products stores nationwide sold the car seat/carriers from December 2004 through September 2006 for between $70 and $100 when sold alone and between $140 and $200 when sold with a compatible stroller.

Toy Cell Phones Recalled Due to Choking Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Battat, Inc., announces a voluntary recall of certain Parents® magazine toy cell phones based on reports of the metal hinge pin becoming dislodged, and posing a small parts hazard to young children.

Wilton Dark Chocolates Recalled Due to Undeclared Milk

Wilton Industries of Woodridge, Illinois is recalling Wilton Premium Dark Cocoa Candy Melts and Dark Cocoa Mint Flavored Candy Melts because they may contain undeclared milk. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk risk serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The recall includes all production codes.

The Wilton Premium Dark Cocoa Candy Melts comes in 12 ounce plastic packaging. Wilton Dark Cocoa Candy Melts and Wilton Dark Cocoa Mint Flavored Candy Melts come in 14 ounce plastic packaging. Three allergic reactions have been reported to date in connection with this problem. The chocolates were distributed nationwide and in Canada.
